“The Dragon's Share“ is a print from my watercolor & ink painting. This piece resonates with me because some of you may know, I’m a bourbon guy and it’s about time I painted something that resonates with that. Instead of a treasure hoard this dragon’s hoard is a bourbon cellar set in his cave. The title is a playoff the bourbon term, The Angel’s Share, which means the portion of bourbon that evaporates through the oak barrel during aging — roughly 3–5% per year in Kentucky. The name comes from the idea that the angels are taking their portion as the spirit matures.
I wanted to give it that feeling as if you just opened the door to a bourbon cellar/cave and there he was in all his hoarding glory.

Fantasy Art
My fantasy art world consists of personal works that have made their way from my soul onto paper and hopefully into your heart. These images evoke a whimsical escape into a lush and fantastical environment full of mystical monsters, creatures and confident humans.
Trolls aren’t always the easiest to get along with… even with each other.
“Beef Over the Spoils” captures two cattle-rustling trolls already arguing over the loot before the heist is even finished. It was an absolute blast designing these characters and figuring out the composition—their expressions, body language, and all the little details that tell the story.

“The Soft Side Of The Dark Throne“ is a print from a watercolor and ink painting that offers a rare glimpse behind the curtain of darkness. It explores how Sauron, the infamous Dark Lord from “The Lord Of The Rings”, copes with the immense weight of power and pressure—not through conquest, but by retreating into quiet moments of solace with his beloved pets.
“Not Your Garden Variety Menace“ depicts the kind of pests you don’t want to come a knocking at your door. These pests don’t really respond to exterminators very well.
“Harvest Moon” was created for the group art show Character In Context at the A.R. Museum of Western Art in Trinidad, CO. The Character in Context show is the largest exhibition of original illustration in the Western U.S. The story behind this one is: Lurking in the shadows of our deepest fears and shrouded in the cloak of our haunted dreams he comes to claim relics from a long lost past beneath the glow of the harvest moon.
“Ripple” depicts how our sense of touch initiates a ripple process that affects us all—whether it soothes or stings, or lingers somewhere in between. A single touch can ground us in the present or transport us to the past. It speaks without words, connecting us in ways both subtle and profound— like a silent language.
Some signs for attention are sometimes a little hard to ignore than others…especially when it comes to baby dragons.

This was the first version, for an assignment for Boy's Life magazine on sports superstitions, but the copy in the story changed and the final art became slightly different. I liked this version where Jim Palmer wore the same pair of socks through an entire season. I created 8 different illustrations for the article. Stay tuned to see the others.
This surly sea dog was created for Kid Stuff Marketing for a toy catalog cover that is distributed to fast food restaurants. Super fun assignment...Shiver me timbers!!!! I just had to say that. :-)
“Hunting For Tomorrow's Ghosts” is a mix of watercolor and digital illustration. It was created for a collaboration between Green Man Brewing and Push Skate Shop and Art Gallery here in Asheville, NC and was printed on a skateboard deck and sold at both places.
I will have archival fine art prints of this in my shop soon. ©2018
Blues Hound Illustration created for a self promotional ad campaign entitled "Hiring The Illustrator Shouldn't Have You Singing The Blues". Love guitars and have been wanting to draw a blues guitarist...you do the math. :-) ©Fian Arroyo
I recently created this watercolor and ink book cover illustration for the book The Stories Of Art Books One & Two. I really loved painting opaquely with the watercolors to create the fiery green smokey feel of the background. Of course drawing dragons is always a plus!!! Working with author Kelly Wolf was a great experience and I hope we can work together again in the future.
Scratchboard illustration for Plant, Sites and Parks magazine many many moons ago for an article on “Pulling The Plug On Your Electric Bills”.
