“Beef Over the Spoils” captures two cattle-rustling trolls already arguing over the loot before the heist is even finished. It was an absolute blast designing these characters and figuring out the composition—their expressions, body language, and all the little details that tell the story.

“The Dragon's Share“ is a print from a watercolor and ink painting that feels especially personal to me. Some of you may know I’m a bit of a bourbon guy, so it was only a matter of time before that found its way into one of my paintings. Instead of hoarding gold and jewels, this dragon guards something far more precious: a bourbon cellar hidden deep within his cavernous lair.

The title is a play on the bourbon term The Angel’s Share — the portion of bourbon that naturally evaporates through the oak barrel during the aging process, typically around 3–5% per year in Kentucky. The idea is that the angels take their share as the spirit matures.

With this piece, I wanted to capture that moment of discovery — like you’ve just opened the heavy cellar door and stumbled upon the dragon in all his barrel-hoarding glor

“A Chivalrous Victory Of Sorts” depicts an ages old struggle between good and evil. Although in this case, you wonder how evil the dragon really was and if the knight is having doubts about his career choice. I love the contrasts in the composition. A tiny thin knight that has slain a massive beast with giant teeth. A small amount of blood pooling out of the dragons mouth instead of large amounts spewing everywhere. A few trees toppled in the background instead of carnage everywhere. Those small details helped make this piece come together for me. I hope it does the same for you.

The world turtle myth is held by many native American Indian tribes as well as in Chinese and Hindu mythology. Instead of showing the whole world as a globe, I symbolized it with a forest and added a fantasy element with a unicorn. :-)

“Embracing Echoes Of A Distant Dream” was created originally as a commission for a friend as an ink drawing. He has a friend who had lost a grandmother a few years ago who basically raised her. Her grandmother was a Japanese immigrant who grew up in Japan during World War II and would talk about watching the military fighter planes flying overhead. He asked if he could commission me to do an ink drawing of a little girl watching dragons flying in the sky with a random dragonfly in it somewhere. I fulfilled his request and loved the idea so much I had to create it again but this time, I had to give it a life in color.

“Night Stalker” or the great horned owl (Bubo virginianus), also known as the tiger owl (originally derived from early naturalists' description as the "winged tiger" or "tiger of the air") has always fascinated me and I wanted to create my own version with that description in mind. They are also good omens as well! In my book, a horned owl has to have horns…I’m just sayin’.

“Forgotten Gods Of The Crown Lands” was created originally for a group art show at the Hollerhouse art gallery in Bristol TN. where the theme for the show was “fire”. When coming up with this idea, I wanted something to tie into the region (which is the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina) as well as with the fire theme and Wa La…I came up with this flaming hot idea!

“Something Fishy Going On” was originally created many many moons ago in a composition that was different than what you see here now. I added quite a few new things to it to add to the story. Who knew that even mermaids cheat at poker. :-)
