“The Dragon's Share“ is a print from my watercolor & ink painting. This piece resonates with me because some of you may know, I’m a bourbon guy and it’s about time I painted something that resonates with that. Instead of a treasure hoard this dragon’s hoard is a bourbon cellar set in his cave. The title is a playoff the bourbon term, The Angel’s Share, which means the portion of bourbon that evaporates through the oak barrel during aging — roughly 3–5% per year in Kentucky. The name comes from the idea that the angels are taking their portion as the spirit matures.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

I wanted to give it that feeling as if you just opened the door to a bourbon cellar/cave and there he was in all his hoarding glory.

As a kid, I was fortunate to live in Japan for a few years, an experience filled with unforgettable memories. One that stands out is capturing Japanese stag beetles and pitting them against each other in battle. The clash of their armored bodies, the scrape of their powerful mandibles, and the sheer intensity of their fights were mesmerizing. I wanted to capture that memory—infused with a touch of my own fantasy vision—by bringing it to life through a pair of goblin knights locked in combat.

“A Chivalrous Victory Of Sorts” depicts an ages old struggle between good and evil. Although in this case, you wonder how evil the dragon really was and if the knight is having doubts about his career choice. I love the contrasts in the composition. A tiny thin knight that has slain a massive beast with giant teeth. A small amount of blood pooling out of the dragons mouth instead of large amounts spewing everywhere. A few trees toppled in the background instead of carnage everywhere. Those small details helped make this piece come together for me. I hope it does the same for you.

“Embracing Echoes Of A Distant Dream” was created originally as a commission for a friend as an ink drawing. He has a friend who had lost a grandmother a few years ago who basically raised her. Her grandmother was a Japanese immigrant who grew up in Japan during World War II and would talk about watching the military fighter planes flying overhead. He asked if he could commission me to do an ink drawing of a little girl watching dragons flying in the sky with a random dragonfly in it somewhere. I fulfilled his request and loved the idea so much I had to create it again but this time, I had to give it a life in color.
