magazine illustration
The November issue of the art magazine Asheville Made has an article about me and my art work in the November issue. They did a great job with the interview, showing my art and the photographer Audrey Goforth did an awesome job with the portrait. Audrey even got my rattler Larry in the pic. :-)
The article focuses more on my watercolor and ink work I do for galleries and mentions my illustration career.

Here's a golden oldie from many MANY moons ago. Something I did as a scratch board illustration for U.S. News and World Report for an article on the bouncing bull market. I used to to a lot of my illustration work before I went digital as scratch board art. Working in this medium is opposite than working in than pen and ink in that you are scratching away darks and creating lighted areas as opposed to creating darks with a pen. I can still emulate the style digitally but there is something about the process of scratching away at the board as opposed to drawing on a Wacom tablet that feels so natural. But at the same time, I sure don't miss all the clay dust that would accumulate in my studio or my lungs for that matter, during the process.
Been too busy to post lately...which is a good thing eh? Here's a sneak peek at a closeup for a magazine double spread I am doing on NC college football mascots. Super fun!!!! Originally it the art was going to be done in my digital airbrush style with a more polished look but the art director loved the sketch so much he wanted to keep the expressive line work so we decided to marry the airbrush style with my line work style and it is coming out awesome!!!!

This is an illustration pulled from the archives of Fian Arroyo Illustration I did years ago for a business magazine for Thomson Financial depicting teamwork. I believe it was an article on companies building teamwork skills kind of like the thing my buddy Tom's site does.
I wanted to show how teamwork in a corporate environment could keep the company moving forward in a collective effort towards a common goal.
